Tradition says that it was St. Dominic who instituted the rosary in the thirteenth century. Latin for "rose garden," the rosary is a devotional tool used in contemplation of the joyous, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries of the life of Christ and Mary. In this century, the rosary has enjoyed renewed popularity following the apparition of Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima, Portugal in 1917 as well as through the enthusiasm and influence of Pope John Paul II.

Our collection of antique rosaries come from Italy, France, and, to a lesser degree, the United States. The oldest date from the 1920s, with the majority dating from the 1930s and 1940s. Here you'll find many fine examples of cut glass beadwork; ornate brass, bronze, and silver crucifixes; and an occasional Stanhope ivory rosary.
